Product feature
■Specially designed engineering workstation to improve
the EDA process
EDA is an abbreviation for Electronic Design Automation
and it is the word to reference the highly sophisticated
software or its design toolset to improve the design
process of the LSI by going through the complicated
engineering simulation on the computer platform. The
"edAEW216 series" was developed aiming to improve
the design process by understanding the user needs for the
engineering workstation. Comparing with the RISC type
UNIX workstation, it can provide a very good cost
performance for the work environment.
■Specification generated based on the user needs
By listening the engineers' voice of wanting the large
capacity of memory space with high speed 64bit CPU to
improve the development capability, the edAEW series has
been developed by Proside. It has a large memory space
of up to 64GB and for the CPU, it can take up to two AMD
Opteron(TM) processor. It can even take two Dual-Core
AMD Opteron(TM) giving nearly the same performance as
the 4 way solution workstation.
■Number of experiences on the EDA field
The "edAEW series" has already been implemented by a
number of Japanese domestic EDA vendors as EDA
workstation replacing the RISC type UNIX workstation.
This "edAEW series" has been a very effective solution
by taking a better part of "low processing power
yet having 64bit environment" and "high processing
power yet only 32bit environment performance PC".
■8+8 solutions for realizing the large capacity of
memory space
To realize the large capacity of memory space, the
"edAEW series" has 8+8 solution, which means that it
can take up to 8 memory modules per CPU giving the
total of 16 memory sockets for the system. With this solution,
we can realize the memory space of 64GB.
■Expansion to 4-way workstation - Dual core AMD
Opteron(TM) compatible
To have the maximum multiple CPU processing capability,
it uses two of the high performance 64bit AMD Opteron(TM)
CPU. It can also take the Dual core AMD Opteron(TM) CPU
by having two core in one CPU. By using this solution,
the workstation is moving to the 4-way high performance
field.
■High quality control to assist the EDA work environment
By having the 64bit environment, the largest merit is
the size of memory space. With the 32bit environment,
the memory space is limited to 4GB, but with the "edAEW
series" it can take up to 64GB of memory space. EDA
design work requires using the large capacity of
memories for a very long period of time with a very high
loading. To have a high reliability under such high
stressed environment, we have been going through a very
strict aging test and the memory validation process
before we ship out from our factory in Taiwan.
■Improvement of the usability - Compact design with
silent system
Even with this very high performance system that can be
expanded to the 4-way solution, this workstation is
designed to used on the engineer' s desk side by having
a silent solution by controlling the cooling fan RPM.
Providing the silent environment for engineers is also
the strong user needs that captured by this series.
■Comvertible chassis design
edAEW216C4 can be used as a pedestal solution or even it
can be converted to 4U rackmount solution with a proper
rackmount slide rail as an optional.
